Nature: This last week, I have been able to get back out in my yard, now that the weather is cooperating!
I have been spending time weeding my garden, taking off the dead leaves or stems and cultivating the ground around the root to give it the best start of the season.
Last year, I removed a majority of my front lawn to make way for a new idea – an English garden type style in my front yard, full of perennials. I wanted something that was more maintenance free, long lasting and that gave better curb appeal to the house itself.
I have a number of beautiful old trees in my yard, which never allowed for my lawn to grow well – it was always brown and dead looking, no matter how much I watered or fertilized – it just couldn’t survive in the environment it was in.
I set out to create something different and it has been a wonderful experience.
I have met many of my neighbors with the changes I have been making in my yard. It has been a conversation piece.
I really haven’t had to purchase any plants. Friends and neighbors loved the idea and started dropping off plants on my door step or asked me to come by and get some plants from their yards that they were wanting to get rid of to allow their plants to flourish better.
This year I plan to continue to remove more grass, planting more plants and adding some rocks into the mix.
We’ll see where this idea goes and how it looks by the end of it all.
I love being able to spend time playing in the dirt, while feeding my creative side at the same time. Two things that feed my soul – nature and creativity.
Take time this year to spend a moment in nature. Look around at your neighbor’s yards, and see if you could bless them with a plant or if they would be willing to bless you with one.
It has definitely been a huge blessing for me to build my garden…
It’s a great way to get to know each other!
Questions to Ponder:
Do you know your neighbors?
Do you have extra plants that you could cut back and possibly share with someone?
Are you looking at getting some plants to create something different in your yard?
Do any friends or family have some perennials they could share with you?
Walk around your neighborhood and see what conversations you can have with people in your area!
