Home School Tip: With all the different regulations going on, a lot of parents have decided to take their kids out school and instead homeschool. A lot of these parents previously would not have considered that an option before now, but feel that it is the best option for their children at this time.
I homeschooled two of my children to grade 7 years ago and fully enjoyed the process.
What I found beneficial:
- Having a dedicated space, it helped having a room set aside for this that you could shut the door when you were done and leave it for the day.
- However, not everyone will have that option.
- Choosing a good curriculum for both parent and child
- Building a network of support for the parent teaching
- Having activities with other homeschool parents and kids
- Being organized made things more enjoyable for all of us – I bought a teachers planning book at Staples and filled that out on a weekly basis to help us stay on track for the year
- I did my best to run it as a school – same hours, similar rules, recess, tests, etc. to keep things consistent
- I was a mom first and a teacher second
- Did a lot of crafts and projects throughout the curriculum to assist in the learning process, break things up a bit and make it more fun for all
- Going outside regularly to run off their energy!
Questions to Ponder:
Would taking a day or two to get more organized be beneficial?
Should you get a teacher’s planner for the year?
Do you have a support system?
Do your kids get enough exercise – if they don’t they will drive you nuts and make school harder to accomplish!
