Going to the Races: As race season here, I just thought I would mention a few things. My son was involved in Motocross – which was a wonderful family experience. I have many wonderful memories around that time in our lives.
It is a lot of commitment, time, effort and money…
If you are in any organized sport, activity or outing, why do you do it? I pose this question because I want to see the end result of why people are doing things.
Common answers are to de-stress, enjoyment, exercise, be around like minded people, etc. – just for a few examples.
Check what your end result is that you are looking for so that you make sure that you do what you need to do ahead of time to accomplish it.
By this I am meaning:
- be organized
- have a plan
- make a list
- start getting ready a few days ahead and make sure you have everything you need to make it happen
- check your items
- pack the necessary items
- pack the food items
- pack the trailer the day or evening before
- make arrangements with any other people that are coming and have a plan set up with them
- anything else needed
Remember why you are doing it and what the outcome is that you want.
For example, if it is to de-stress and you are unorganized, there is no plan in place, you don’t have everything you need, you are lacking in your food or clothing items, you haven’t made arrangements with the other people who are coming, it becomes a rushing, chaotic environment where things tend to go wrong. By the end of the day, you are exhausted, things are everywhere because you were looking for things you couldn’t find, everyone was running around like a chicken with their head cut off, and then you have to frantically pack things up for the drive home, put things away, etc.
The end result of that is not enjoyment or de-stressing – it is actually the exact opposite of why you are doing it – you added more stress to your life, you’re miserable, exhausted and unhappy.
Take the time to do things that will give you the outcome you are wanting from the experience.
Questions to Ponder:
Are you ready for race season?
Why do you do it?
What is the end result you are looking for?
Do you set yourself up to achieve that outcome?
Are there things you could change to get it?
