Personal Tip or Opinion of the Day

Personal Tip – De-stressing – Aug 7/23

De-stressing:  A trend I have noticed over the last few months with friends and family, along with comments made, is that part of their de-stressing routine is playing games on their phones.

They do this regularly – while watching tv, while waiting on anything, on coffee breaks, while on the phone, while waiting on their food at restaurants, in the bathroom, in bed, before work, after work, some during work…

This is happening in people of all ages, kids, teens, adults, seniors, etc.

Although, this is and has been a great option to occupy people’s minds and idle hands, it is creating an anti-social movement in our own houses.

People sit in the living room, watching a movie together, on their phones playing games.  In years past, the tv might have been on, people may have played cards or board games and been interacting more with one another, instead of enthralled with technology.

I will admit, playing games on my phone has been a way for me to de-stress – but in saying that, there is balance in everything and I think the pendulum is swinging a little too far in a lopsided direction.

Friends of mine have said they have played countless hours daily on their phone, with little else to show for their day!  These are highly motivated people that like to be busy and accomplish things most of the time.  They would have previously found this to be frivolous and annoying – and now they are doing it and wondering how it has captivated them so.

They have become addicted to the mind numbing feeling and sense of accomplishment that winning and passing on to the next level has provided.

Questions to Ponder:

How often are you on your phone playing games?

How much time do you spend playing games in a given day?

Has it changed your human interaction with your family?

Is it taking away from your relationships?

Is it balanced?
