Business Tip or Opinion of the Day

Business Tip – RR&E’s – Aug 9/23

Human Resources Tip:  Are you doing regular RR&E’s (Roles, Responsibilities & Expectations) with your staff?  As things change and evolve it is necessary to make sure you have the right people in the right roles.

One way to capture this is by doing annual RR&E’s for your employees.  The best and most successful way I have seen this completed is to have the employee to fill out the form, a team member and a member of management to fill out a similar form from their point of view and then compare the 3 of them to see how well they coincide and make the necessary changes.

Fulfilling this task, will also help staff engagement as it makes them part of the overall picture.

RR&E’s: What is a RR&E?  Roles, Responsibilities & Expectation…what are your roles, responsibilities and expectations on you in your position?  Do you even know?

Most people I deal with have no clue as to their job description.

This leaves people floundering in their roles and they may not be fulfilling the expectation the company in their position.

If a person goes day to day unknowing what their particular tasks are, guessing at the priorities in the role and having little to no idea what direction or expectation the company has on them, it leaves a lot of room for error, less productivity, and at the end of the day it is less fulfilling for the individual.

It is important to have and put these practices into place to help with the direction of the company, the guidance of the individual positions and roles, and gives clarification overall.

This is also something that should be reviewed throughout the year and updated as needed.

Questions to Ponder:

Does your company complete annual RR&E’s?

Do you really know what your job description is?

Do you have defined job descriptions?

Do people truly know what they have been tasked with?

Are they accomplishing them?
