Business & Personal Tip – Christmas Traditions – Dec 9 & 10/23

Christmas Traditions:  Some people have them, some don’t.  Some don’t celebrate Christmas.

It is interesting how traditions become a part of us.  Sometimes we don’t even like them, but we continue to do them because they are such a part of us.

Whatever your traditions are – I hope that you continue them and teach them to the next generation with an understanding of why they are your traditions.

Consider starting new ones and continuing them as well throughout the holiday seasons.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with people from all over the world. As they didn't have a lot of family members in the area, I would invite them to our house for Christmas dinner. We could have anywhere from 6 extra people at our table to 30 depending on who chose to join us!

However, we had rules for this celebration - everyone had to bring a traditional dish from their country that their family would eat and explain what it meant to them and who in their family started this tradition. We also did a tradition from their family. They had to do the tradition and teach us why it was important to them. This was an amazing moment for everyone and was great exposure for my children.

We shared many moments learning about other cultures, traditions, food, religion, etc and there were never any issues - everyone accepted and respected everyone. It was simply an awesome experience.

It was also an opportunity for work colleagues to get to know each other and their families.

Questions to Ponder:

Have you thought about where they came from and why?

Who started them, have they evolved or changed over the years?

What is their importance or significance?

How do you continue them and pass them on?

If you don’t have any, think about creating some!

Is there someone from your workplace that could benefit from joining your family Christmas dinner?
