Personal Tip or Opinion of the Day

Personal Tip – Stress & Sleep – Sept 4/24

Stress & Sleep:  I wish we had a magic button that we could press to help us with our sleeping habits and patterns, especially when we are stressed.

How stress plays havoc on your sleep is beyond frustrating at times.

You can go to sleep early, sleep all night and wake up feeling like you’ve been hit by a bus and haven’t slept a wink – this is the one that bewilders me the most – because what else can you do?  You’ve slept 8 or 10 hours but it sure doesn’t feel like it…

Sometimes, you sleep and wake up periodically for no rhyme or reason and feel like crap when you have to force yourself out of bed – this one at least makes more sense to me when you feel crappy, because you didn’t get the sleep you needed.

Other times, you can’t get to sleep – whether stuff is floating around your head or not, and you just lie there staring at the ceiling.

Some people try to assist their sleep with sleeping pills and such, and sometimes it helps, other times it doesn’t.

The hard part about this is that we need sleep to function at our best…we need sleep to just plain function.

So, how do we allow ourselves to get sleep or force ourselves to get sleep?  Is it possible?

This is something I am working through right now; I don’t have the answers yet.  I am just going through the motions and trying to figure this out.

My mate, my best friend is gone for a while far, far away, so I am missing him - getting used to life on my own again, but sleeping without him is hard.  He keeps the bed warm, now I am cold.  I have so many blankets on the bed, I think I could suffocate (lol) but it just can’t replace his warmth – he was my heater.

The house feels empty without him around, everything just feels kinda blah – but he had a family emergency and needed to go and help out which I fully understand and support, but being away from each other is no easy task.  It adds stress to every area of your life whether you want it to or not and it is a process that your mind, body and spirit need to go through.

It probably affects you more when you didn’t have time to think about it or process it – it just happened suddenly and then he was gone…I miss him terribly – but as the saying goes “the show must go on…”, life must go on.

I still have things I am responsible for on a daily basis and need to keep up on things.  I need to allow myself relax time and take care of me.  I am getting used to some things, but it is the sleeping that has me most perplexed and on a journey to find out how to get through this portion of the journey.

Questions to Ponder:

Do you struggle with sleeping?

How are your sleeping patterns?

Does stress play havoc on your sleep?
